“Come in, Sambal,” Anas said gently, giving her the way to come in. She entered the gate but did not move forward.
“I didn’t come to sit here, but I came to clarify one thing that I don’t want to marry you and I want you not to repeat this in front of my mother and father because I will deny it in front of them too, but I will look at them.” I don’t want to hurt them by being bad.”
“I can ask the reason for this refusal.” The seriousness spread on Anas’s face became more serious.
“You don’t know the reason. What did Taiji and Dilawar Bhai do with Baji. She has ignored or forgotten these things, but I absolutely cannot bear any accusation against me.”
“Why would anyone accuse you?” Anas wanted to explain to him.
“Your mother. When you mention my name, she will definitely not like it and she will make a big issue and defame me in the whole family and I can’t bear it at all and anyway there is a proposal from Baji’s brother-in-law.” I like him better than you. At least those people are not greedy and deceitful like you.
He didn’t answer but his lips were pursed. He knew that Sambal would object a little but she would disregard his feelings. She would prefer someone else over her love. No idea. She was gone but for how long he couldn’t move.
“اندر آو سنبل۔”انس نے نرمی سے کہ کر اسے اندر آنے کا راستہ دیا۔وہ گیٹ کے اندر آگئی لیکن آگے نہیں بڑھی۔
“میں یہاں بیٹھنے نہیں آئی بلکہ ایک بات کلئیر کرنے آئی ہوں کہ میں آپ سے شادی نہیں کرنا چاہتی اور چاہتی ہوں کہ آپ یہ بات آئندہ نہ دہرائیں میرے امی ابو کے سامنے کیونکہ میں ان کے سامنے بھی انکار کروں گی لیکن میں ان کی نظر میں برا بن کر انہیں تکلیف نہیں دینا چاہتی۔”
“وجہ پوچھ سکتا ہوں اس انکار کی۔”انس کے چہرے پہ پھیلی سنجیدگی مزید گھمبیر ہوگئی تھی۔
“وجہ کیا آپ کو نہیں پتہ۔کیا کیا تھا تائی جی اور دلاور بھائی نے باجی کے ساتھ۔وہ ان باتوں کو نظر انداز کرچکی ہے یا بھول چکی ہے لیکن میں بلکل برداشت نہیں کرسکتی کہ مجھ پہ کوئی الزام لگے۔”
“کوئی کیوں لگائے گا تم پہ الزام۔”انس نے اسے سمجھانا چاہا۔
“آپ کی امی۔جب آپ میرا نام لیں گے تو یقیناً انہیں اچھا نہیں لگے گا اور وہ بڑا ایشو بنا کر مجھے سارے خاندان میں بدنام کرے گی اور میں ایسا بلکل برداشت نہیں کرسکتی اور ویسے بھی باجی کے دیور کا پرپوزل بھی موجود ہے۔مجھے آپ کی نسبت وہی بہتر لگ رہا ہے۔کم از کم وہ لوگ آپ کی طرح لالچی اور دھوکے باز تو نہیں۔”
اس نے کوئی جواب نہیں دیا تھا مگر اس کے ہونٹ بھینچ گئے تھے۔اسے پتہ تھا کہ سنبل تھوڑا اعتراض ضرور کرے گی لیکن یوں اس کے جذبات کی ناقدری کرے گی۔اس کی محبت پہ کسی اور کو ترجیح دے گی۔یہ اسے بلکل بھی اندازہ نہیں تھا۔وہ چلی گئی تھی لیکن وہ کتنی دیر تک ہل نہ سکا۔
